Thanks to all who have replied so far. I had wanted a way of sending output to the screen which would be legible as well as 'known' by the main I4gl program. One respondant rightly pointed out that any changing of the tty i/o control would have to be reset to its original state to prevent screwing up execution under the 4gl portion. Another noted that Informix would not be able to clear the screen upon return, something I hadn't mentioned. Thanks for the responses. To be honest, I found another way which seemed to me to be a neater fix: To set up: create a screen array with several long lines, delimiters " " code a trivial 4gl function to display an argument to the last screen row, and scroll up by 1 To display a message from ESQL/C: first push the message onto the 4gl stack with retquote() call the trivial-4gl-function directly, with an argument of (1) Bada-boom, Bada bing, Informix performs the display for you, and can erase it at its own leisure. If any one finds fault with this procedure, I'd like to hear. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Mitch Amiano Current Work Phone: 477-3506 | | Software Contractor | | Rochester, NY | | 716-226-2024 | | | | "We were having an ugly face contest, but we're done now.
