International Informix World User Conference Update =================================================== Informix Ports SE and ESQL/C to Linux!!! In a bold move today that will change everything, Informix announces they have ported the Standard Engine and ESQL/C to the Linux Operating System, shipping today. This is the single most important event in computing for 1998, and it simply changes the whole industry. While Oracle and others have made announcements regarding Linux, Informix is delivering on CD-ROM SE and ESQL/C TODAY, and at their newly introduced Informix Developer Network website, at www.informix.com. As a stroke of genius, SE represents the perfect entry point for people moving to Informix and Linux. It is simple to install, simple to use, incredibly reliable, and perfect for many developers wanting a simple yet robust database. Future releases of other Informix products are already being discussed. For those of you out there that don't think Informix listens, they have not only listened, they have delivered. Informix has acknowledge us publically for our contribution to this historic opportunity. Believe me this was extremely difficult for a lot of people to deliver in the short amount of time given to the port. BUT: Not a single line of code was changed for the port to Linux. Informix marketing are fully behind this, as well as an in-place support plan by customer services. I am extremely proud of Informix, and the IIUG, for accomplishing this bold move into the new market called Linux. And it couldn't have come from a more appropriate town than Seattle. :-) Thanks! More later as events unfold...
