We went from 5.0x to 7.12 with few problems. We never used a
consultant. The upgrade consisted of dbexport, install 7.1x, bring
engine up, dbimport. I was able to make a good guess of dbspace / table
layouts based on our current system. The system required a bit of
tuning, as 7.x is quite different from 5.x, but I went to various
courses as well. Between them and OJT, we handled the situation quite
nicely.
