Bill,
it depends on the amount of data you need to backup.
We had an 8mm Exabyte drive to backup 20 GB, giving us 4 tapes and the
boring work to keep somebody to change tapes ...
Recently we bought a DLT and everything is working fine because it=B4s
possible to backup 35GB/70GB in one cartridge, but you may prefer to buy a
DAT dds3 12/24 GB (cheaper !).
