If your database is a non-ANSI database each DML statement is treated as one single transaction, thereby eliminating the need to call COMMIT. However, if you call BEGIN WORK before executing DML statements (provided of course that your database has logging enabled), you would need to explicitly call COMMIT (ROLLBACK) in order to end the transaction and save all changes, if applicable.
