IDS for linux Installation: fatal error in ASF
Posted in 2000
Installing IDS 7.30.UC10 on Red Hat Linux 6.0, oninit -iy failed with "Fatal Error in initializing ASF with ASF_INIT_DATA flags; asfcode = 25507". Suggestions included tuning kernel shared-memory/semaphore settings (shmparam.h, sem.h, then rebuilding the kernel) and checking that the sqlhosts service name exists in /etc/services. The key point was that IDS 7.30 on Linux doesn't support tlitcp, so the connection had to use onsoctcp. After switching, a "Fatal error in shared memory initialization" remained, which the poster traced to wrong owner/group on the rootdbs file; fixing permissions made it work.

Hi all,
I am trying to install IDS 7.30.UC10 for Linux on a Redhat 6.0 (kernel
2.2.5-15)
The file Onconfig.ol_server is updated and the Oninit -iy command print this
message:
oninit: Fatal Error in initializing ASF with `ASF_INIT_DATA` flags; asfcode
= `25507`
I read on IDS_7.3 that there are some parameters for the share memory and
the kernel to set. I don't know how to set these parameters.
May you help me ?
Thank you for your answers

Shared Memory parameters:
# cd /usr/src/linux/include/asm
# vi shmparam.h
Semaphores:
# cd /usr/src/linux/include/linux
# vi sem.h
After changes are made the kernel must be rebuild.
Look at /usr/src/linux/README

Thank you for your answer...I did that...no change :-(
Always the same prior message...
Any idea ?

Look at your $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts and your /etc/services file.
I think there is no entry of the service-name (4th. field in sqlosts)
in the /etc/services file.
Example onconfig:
.
.
DBSERVERNAME ids730
.
.
Example sqlhosts:
ids730 onsoctcp your_hostname ids730_soc
Example /etc/services:
.
.
ids730_soc 47111/tcp # for ids 730
.
.

$INFORMIXDIR/etc/onconfig.ol_daneel
DBSERVERNAME ol_daneel # Name of default database server
DBSERVERALIASES ol_daneel_shm # List of alternate dbservernames
$INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts
ol_daneel onsoctcp daneel.imsii.fr sqlturbo
ol_daneel_shm onipcshm daneel.imsii.fr srv_agent
/etc/services :
sqlturbo 1526/tcp
srv_agent 1530/tcp
The execution of oninit -iy give different results with different sqlhosts
with:
ol_daneel onsoctcp daneel.imsii.fr sqlturbo
ol_daneel_shm onipcshm daneel.imsii.fr srv_agent
---> oninit: Fatal error in shared memory
with
ol_daneel oltlitcp daneel.imsii.fr sqlturbool_daneel_shm onipcshm daneel.imsii.fr srv_agent (This
sqlhosts is used on my SCO Openserver IDS and works fine)
---> oninit: Fatal error in initializing ASF with 'ASF_INIT_DATA' flags;
asfcode = '25507'
I wonder if it doesn't come from the SEM ans SHM parameters...I modified
them in the sem.h and shmparam.h but how can you know they are ok ?
Thanks.

Jean-Brice,
IDS 7.30 on Linux does not support "tlitcp".
Try to initialize the server (oninit -ivy) with "soctcp" (without ipcshm).
For more information which nettype parameters are supported read:
$INFORMIXDIR/release/en_us/0333/ids_7.3

Markus

OKAY.. I did a mistake...I don't know since when...I had forgotten the owner
and group for my rootdbs flat file...It works fine now :)
Thank you all for your help
