IDS 11 ugrade - slower and different mutexes

Hi,
An upgrade from IDS 10.00.FC7 to IDS 11.10.FC2 was just done on an HP-UX?
11.23 server with PA-RISC CPU architecture.? Going from IDS 10 to 11.1 a
direct conversion of the database is done.? Update statistics was run on the
database after the conversion.? It was hoped that the application would
potentially have greater through put with IDS 11.1 because of the non-blocking
check points and other improvements contained in Cheetah 1.? However,?slam
tests on the database actually showed about a twenty percent decrease in
transaction through put.? The onstat -g wai command? showed lots of mutexes
with a description of "mutex hash PN_ID".? While it is not unusual to
see?mutexes during slam tests, a co-worker indicated that he did not
previously see this type of a mutex when using the IDS 10.
Has anyone else seen this type of mutex in IDS 11.1?? Are their any
suggestions for tracing this item down?? Has anyone else upgraded to IDS 11.1
and seen a degradation problem?? All the reports that I previously heard about
Cheetah 1 were positive, so I was surprised by the end result.
Thanks,
Bruce
Bruce:
Just a few quick items to check:
1. I would check the onconfig to ensure the PC_HASHSIZE has not change=
d
during the
upgraded. The number of PN_ID mutexes which are created is
determined by
PC_HASHSIZE onconfig parameter. IDS will create 1 mutex for each
HASH.
Example: if PC_HASHSIZE is 311, then we will create 311 mutexes.=
If
this
parameter was lowered during the upgrade then undue contention wo=
uld
be placed on
these mutexes.
2. I would also look at the results of the following sql statement,
specifically for the procedure
name cache.
select * from sysmaster:syssqlcacheprof
EXAMPLE
id 5
name Procedure Name Cache
hits 103
misses 75
removed 8
mem_used 39704
mem_free 1256
total_entries 67
inuse_entries 52
.
