Hi, We have a SMP machine with linux Suse 6.4 kernel 2.2.14. Does SINGLE_CPU_VP must be 0 or 1 ? What is the meaning of this variable ? Thank in advance.

If you have a single CPU system the answer is 1, otherwise 0
Should you have more than one CPU you will also need to tweak
MULTIPROCESSOR
NUMCPUVPS

Before you buy.
If you have SMP with more than one CPU (not much of an SMP otherwise I
guess) you need to set MULTIPROCESSOR to 1. If you have NUMCPUVPS set to
a value greater than one, or you want to be able to increase it beyond 1
using onmode -p +1 cpu you should set SINGLE_CPU_VP to 0 otherwise if you
set NUMCPUVPS to 1 and have no intention of dynamically adding CPU VPs then
set SINGLE_CPU_VP to 1. MULTIPROCESSOR 0 enables performance enhancements
that preclude the possibility that processes may be running simultaneously
on multiple CPUs, SINGLE_CPU_VP 1 enables performance enhancements that
preclude the possibility that more than one CPU VP may be trying to access
the same data structures (whether timeshared or concurrently).
