Re: Update Statistcs Error

Daniel: You've run out of sort space in your DBSPACETEMP temp dbspace(s). Try using the parallel sort package. In the client environment set and export PSORT_NPROCS to some value >= 12, PDQPRIORITY to some value >= 10, PSORT_DBTEMP to a list of 3 or more (5 works best) FILESYSTEMS (not dbspaces!) that each have enough free space to hold the widest key (time nrows) of the table(s) you are updating stats for. Finally, NEVER run update stats HIGH on the entire database in a single command. It is TOO SLOW and requires to many resources. Follow the recommendations in the Performance Guide for the minimal set of UPDATE STATISTICS commands required to provide a useful level of data distributions. ALternatively you can download any of several utilities from the IIUG Software Repository which implement these recommendations. There are scripts written in ksh and Perl, a 4GL app, and my own dostats utility which is the most flexible and powerful of the lot which is written in ESQL/C (but can be compiled with C4GL 7.xx also). Dostats is contained in the package utils2_ak. Art S.
