I don't know about your problem, but have you read the tech allert at http://www.informix.com/informix/services/ilink/alerts/111896.htm which among other things describes a defect in the backup system where you may sometimes loose data on the backup. This is fixed in 7.21. If that (or an even later) version is available on your platform it also include OnBar which may be worth trying. I think there are also other problems that are fixed in later versions. 7.20 is a first release of a new version. It's allways a good idea to run production systems on versions where the 3rd digit is not 0 (7.1x or 7.2x where x is 1 or larger). It's far from impossible to run on the x.x0 releases. We do that here. You just have to be aware of the issues involved.
