With Informix, you could use a trigger ON DELETE or ON UPDATE to kick off a
stored procedure which would, presumably, scan through a separate table of
subscriptions for notification. The SP would presumably use the SYSTEM
statement (but not on an NT OnLine system) to dispatch the information by
email, fax, phone or whatever.
This could easily be horribly inefficient -- you wouldn't want to do it on
every table in your main OLTP database.
