What's the matter? Trying to escape from all those ex's fathers with the shot gun? ;-) [Here's a hint. Casually ask her what her father does and if he owns a gun before you date her! Works for me ! 8-] Now seriously, I'd say start with 4GL. Its fast, easy, and relatively bug free. You can get a working app done quickly. The concetrate on the GUI world. Here's a helpful tip: Write your business logic in C! C is still the most portable language around! Now for those who missed the World Wide Users Conference and the ask your experts panel (Probably the *best* session...), There was a new era question about managing objects in different windows from a central object. The response was, that it can't be done. While this may seem like a trivial point, it has serious implications. First, like all GUIs, the idea is to create an app which is an extention of single view/windows app. So communications between windows becomes more important. New Era lacks the concept of an application class, and the concept of delegation. Add to this that the learning curve for *ANY* object oriented language, is much longer than simple procedural languages like C, 4GL, Cobol, Fortran, etc ... So, 4GL does have its bennifits. Like I said, separate the business logic and write it in C. Doing this forces you to separate the business logic, review and refine it. Also, you can then port it to any platform, use it with C++ functions, Java, and with 9.12 and future releases of Online, you can use it instead of SPL.
