I have been doing this for years and never had any problem.
If you want to stop logging you can try :
update systables set tabtype = "T"
where tabtype = "L"
You need to be very careful about what you are doing, and be sure that
no
user/program will be affected by the lack of logging. Test it before
running it on your production database.
