9.X is taking up more space because the 9.x release stores all indexes in their own TBLSPACE. If you look at on oncheck -pt you will find your indexes have been detached. All of you 7.X extent sizing included indexes. When you import the indexes are taking their own space and the table has now used the space figured for the indexes.
