The ability to back out a transaction committed in error is an implementation specific feature? The ability to write hundreds of thousands of insert statements per second is an implementation specific feature? Well perhaps so if you live in a world where every table is a heap table, there is only one type of index, and no one is supporting your product with applications. But that is not true of the marketplace in which Oracle and SQL Server are competing. Have you seriously looked at the comparison of these two docs? http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/idshelp/v10/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.sqls.doc/sqls199.htm and http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28286/statements_5011.htm#SQLRF01209 Your use of the phrase "implementation-specific" might be considered by an "impartial academic" as reflecting the fact that you are working in a product that has not progressed significantly in more than a decade or that perhaps your knowledge of the industry has not: Who can say. <g> -- Daniel A.
