Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
A user on IDS 12.10.FC6DE under Windows Server 2008 R2 reported that 'onbar -b -F' (a fake/no-image backup) seemed not to work, with no error output and apparently nothing in BAR_ACT_LOG. Ricardo Henriques suggested enabling BAR_DEBUG and BAR_DEBUG_LOG via onmode -wf, then explained that a fake backup produces no console output by design — it only marks dbspaces as backed up — so success must be verified in BAR_ACT_LOG ("Begin/Completed fake backup") or by querying bar_action in sysutils. The poster confirmed this resolved his confusion.

Hello All,
We are trying to do 'onbar -b -F' on Windows Informix instance. But unable to
do so.
System details are as below:
IDS: 12.10.FC6DE
OS: Win Server 2008 R2 (64-bit)
Please share your inputs on same.
Any related help will be highly appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi,
What's the error given when the fake backup fails? What's the message in
BAR_ACT_LOG?
You may find more info if you change BAR_DEBUG and set a BAR_DEBUG_LOG. You
can change both dynamically using onmode -wf.
Keen regards.

Thank you Ricardo.
But there is no any error.
There is nothing in BAR_ACT_LOG.
We will try to change BAR_DEBUG and set a BAR_DEBUG_LOG and will keep updated
accordingly.
Thank you,

Yes, I understood the typo.
Just to be sure, you are trying to do a fake backup, this will not actually
perform a backup and save an image, it will only flag the dbspaces has
backed up. When you issue the command it will not provide any output:
[infx1210@tardis ~]$ onbar -b -F
[infx1210@tardis ~]$
You have to check the BAR_ACT_LOG to check the status:
[infx1210@tardis ~]$ onstat -c | egrep ^BAR_ACT_LOGBAR_ACT_LOG /home/informix/logs/infx1210/infx1210_bar_act.log
[infx1210@tardis ~]$ tail -3
/home/informix/logs/infx1210/infx1210_bar_act.log
2016-01-22 11:11:48 2661 2659 Begin fake backup.
2016-01-22 11:11:48 2661 2659 Completed fake backup.
2016-01-22 11:11:49 2661 2659 /opt/IBM/informix/V12.1/bin/onbar_d
complete, returning 0 (0x00)
[infx1210@tardis ~]$
Or query the bar_action table on the sysutils:
[infx1210@tardis ~]$ echo "SELECT * FROM bar_action WHERE act_type = 4" |
dbaccess sysutils 2>/dev/null | uniq
act_aid 1
act_oid 1
act_type 4
act_status 0
act_start 2016-01-22 11:11:48
act_end 2016-01-22 11:11:48
[infx1210@tardis ~]$
Is a fake backup you are trying to accomplish? What the BAR_ACT_LOG looks
like?
Cheers
