You know after ten years of building multi-terrabyte databases on informix, db2, oracle and rdb(!) (and half-terrabyte ones on SQL Server) I've got to say that Informix was my favorite. But DB2 UDB is now improving at a very steady clip and I've found that especially with the db2 8.1 release that it's slowly taking over that spot from informix. It still isn't as intuitive or elegant, but especially in comparison to oracle it is inexpensive, easy to build, and easy to maintain. Based on conversations over the last year, it Seems like more & more of my old oracle buddies are coming to the same conclusions too! Anyhow, I haven't had a chance to work on informix in years, but perhaps informix & db2 will gradually merge together? buck
