Using Indian languages in IDS

Hi, I am from India. We use Informix database in our organization. But nowadays we require that in addition to English data that is inserted in database, we should be able to insert data in Hindi atleast in our database. But we are not getting much help regarding Indic languages. Hence, I am sorry to state that, proposal to change over to Postgresql or Mysql is being considered. Actually that will require lots of changes in existing programs. Hence if someone could point out to some documentation regards to using Indic languages in Informix(not Chinese or Japanese), I would be really thankful. Pages such as https://www-01.ibm.com/software/globalization/topics/indic/intro.html don't seem to convey that Indian languages can be used with Informix. Thanks and regards in anticipation, Prajakta
I'd say ILS (International Language Supplement) is what you need: =20 http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSGU8G=5F12.1.0/com.ibm.cliapino= de.doc/ils=5Fug.htm If it's only about accepting and returning Hindi characters, then using=20 UTF8 code set might already do (if client using UTF too). If, on the other = hand, you need more locale specific settings (collation/sort order, date=20 formats etc.) or code set conversion (between database and client code=20 sets), you'd need the Hindi locale installed from the ILS. You also can (or at least could) take the existing locales and tweak them to meet your requirements, I did this back in the dark ages for a Iranian customer then there wasn't a Farsi locale Cheers Paul -----Original Message----- From: ids-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:ids-bounces@iiug.org] On Behalf Of Andreas Legner Sent: Monday, January 02, 2017 6:17 AM To: ids@iiug.org Subject: Re: Using Indian languages in IDS [38413] I'd say ILS (International Language Supplement) is what you need: =20 http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSGU8G=5F12.1.0/com.ibm.cliapino= de.doc/ils=5Fug.htm If it's only about accepting and returning Hindi characters, then using=20 UTF8 code set might already do (if client using UTF too).
