Is there anything I should be aware of when unsing this functions? http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/data/library/techarticle/dm-1011informixdefrag menter/ Im not asking about limitations, I'm asking about "Make sure you have enough space here" or "Better do it in the night with low load" or "It may take a year for big tables" or "backups wont work" or "once it starts, if you try to stop it pray your god"... As always, thanks in advance and happy new year!
You need some space, not lots, but uf you want the repack to also defrag the table, contiguous space to hold the whole thing would be nice. There is some performance hot and mkmentary locks so quiet time runs are a good idea. It might take a looong time for big tables. Backups will run fine. The process is supposed to be safe and restartable, but I would be VERY careful if your database is unlogged.
