Re: Opinions on Informix

Well, Baan is not a database, is an ERP, and as far as I'm concerned, Informix integrates quite transparently with Baan, and frankly, I don't like the idea of a database company that also makes an ERP (remember MS). There is clearly an interest conflict. Patrick J. Nolan, Jr. wrote: > I am interested in hearing your opinions of Informix's database as compared > to others (ie, Oracle, Baan, etc). ERP systems Baan, SAP, PeopleSoft all run well on top of Informix. I find the Informix easier to configure and tune for SMP (multi-CPU) machines than Oracle. Informix is pretty much a Unix-NT platform only (first Linux port of a RDBMS). Oracle will also run on Windoze98, Vax, mainframe systems. DB2 is King of the Mainframes for a RDBMS. The DB2 on mainframe, AS400, AIX seem to be different products with the same name. -- --------------------------------------------------------- Steven Hauser email: hause011@tc.umn.edu URL: http://www.tc.umn.edu/~hause011 ---------------------------------------------------------
