I recently was told that Windows NT was modeled after VMS. The kernel engineer I talked to said that NT was so similar to VMS he was surprised more people didn't see it. I resisted this thought, but since talking to him several other kernel people and developers have told me the same thing. = For instance the registry, and the basic method the way the OS responds to events. NT is priority-based, not in the same way UNIX is. There seems to be a wealth of information to support this, however, I've nothing to substantiate it, just this idle chatter. Personally I find NT and VMS pretty lame OSes, if you can call them Operating Systems. But they do have their appeal, along with Apple, which just won't die. :-) Tim > Richard Wellis Sinyem wrote: > > > > -- [ From: Richard Wellis Sinyem * EMC.Ver #2.5.02 ] -- > > > > Are you refering to an OS (as in Operating System) ?? > > ... or is this some sort of SOS distress signal .. > > > > -------- REPLY, Original message follows -------- > > > > Date: Friday, 17-Oct-97 03:57 PM > > > > From: Mediador \\ Internet: (mergas@entelchile.net)= To: > > INFORMIX Worldwide List \\ Internet: (informix-list@rmy.emory.edu)= > > > > Subject: what is the best... > > > > Masters , help i need somebody help.... > > > > I must be great desicion : To define SO to use in our instalation and= invoco > > to your experience for a question =BFwhat SO is best, UNIX or VMS? wh= y? thanhs > > in advance > > > > MCA > > > > -------- REPLY, End of original message -------- > = > -- > #include <std_disclaimer.h> /* Mike Segel (MS385) */ > #include <No_Spam.h> > #ifdef OFFENDED_BY_CONTENT > The author takes no responsibility for this post. > Any resemblence to a coherent rational thought is purely coincidence. > -The Management. > #endif > ***************************** > Due to AGIS's Refusal to Act Responsibly > We are blocking all of their domains at the packet level. > This block will exist until AGIS modifies their policies to > conform to existing RFCs and net community standards. > = :-0 THEY DID ACT RESPONSIBLY. :-) There was a news article about this Mikey! = So change your damn sig! > We encourage all ISPs and domain holders to do the same. > ***************************** :-) -- = Tim Schaefer \\\\|// = tschaefe@mindspring.com 6 6 = -------------------------oOOo---( )---o00o---------------------- http://www.inxutil.com - My Ezine http://www.informix.com - Informix Software Inc. http://www.iiug.org - International Informix User Group/FAQ news://comp.databases.informix - Newsgroup for Informix Users = =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D
