Legato

Hi, Attached is a copy of the end of our Onbar log. My problem is that the Legato backups are failing more and more frequently. This seems to be related to the amount of data being backed up (growing to > 100GB). We are now at the stage where we have little faith in the backups and have resorted to taking the database offline every night and copying the chunks (O/S files) then restarting the database. In the meantime we are continuing to use Legato (version 5.1) to backup nightly (data and logical logs). The logical logs are backing up successfully. The problem is that in a disaster situation we will need to restore from the O/S files and then apply the logical logs from tape to bring the database up to date. If we know (from the online.log / onbar log) which logical logs to restore is it possible to restore the appropriate logs from Legatos backup to the O/S file restore? This would then give us all logical logs except the current one. Hi Gerry, have you *ever* tried a test restore? You should do it: - before you turn your backup tool productive - always when you change something essential on your environment (opsys/database/backup tool), such as an upgrade - when no other reason at least two times a year How to do it? Doing it on the same server seems to be a bit difficult because you have to stop the application for many hours. Apart from that you have to have as many spart disks as your system has to restore the database on them - if the restore fails you still have the original system. But you'd better to test it on another server. You need the disks in this case as well. Anyway we also have onbar with Legato's Networker. Our biggest database is over 150 GB and the tool works. There are often some small problems, BUT the restore was always successful.
