RE: Informix Online 5.x alert program for use with paging software

Hello, we have implemented a very simple solution to this problem. We wrote a shellscript which gets kicked off every hour by cron and all it does is check in appropriate message/log files (database and system) for certain key words and phrases, eg full (log files), corruption (!!), error, errno, failed, etc. If any words/phrases like these are encountered, the script executes `cu`. The pager number and number to call are specified as different systems in the Systems file. The number to call indicates the nature of the problem, eg, 101010101 - remote system down, 22222222, problems with database, 3333333, log files full, 4444444, system problems, eg, file system full. The script we use runs on several servers and each can notify the others of problems, ie, a server without a modem will notify a server with a modem that it has a problem and the server with a modem will place a call. While not being fully integrated with the database, it is a general system-wide utility which works well for us. Obviously, it is not tied to any particular database version and so is portable. Mods/enhancements are easy. It does help if you like shellscripting:-) (Our script is about 800 lines) HTH Cheers Chae ---------- From: stiglich[SMTP:stiglich@promarkone.com] Sent: 11 December 1996 19:11 To: informix-list Subject: Informix Online 5.x alert program for use with paging software Hello, I'm wondering if anyone knows of some type of an alert program for Informix 5.x similar to the one available for 7.x? I would like to pass info to a paging program when the instance is down, running out of space, chunk down, etc, etc. TiA Pete ****************************************************************** Peter Stiglich Database Administrator Promark One Marketing Services stiglich@promarkone.com 602-941-6227 Fax 602-941-2776 http://www.spdata.com/promark/ ********************************************************************* -------------------==== Posted via Deja News ====----------------------- http://www.dejanews.com/ Search, Read, Post to Usenet
