FW: DON'T LAUGH! Help? Informix 2.10 to ? & SCO Xenix to Unix Sys V

Can you not get hold of a copy of the latest version of 4GL and give it a try? Its a long time since I saw anyone using this copy so I cannot remotely thing of what you might have to change. Here are some things to review: Error handling: The newer versions of 4GL split error handling into SQL errors and other errors (eg Out of range errors). This means that WHENEVER ERROR ....only covers SQL errors. To trap all errors change this to WHENEVER ANY ERROR. If you refer to sqlca.sqlcode for errors, you should consider changing this to STATUS when moving to a newer version. It would be nice if informix provided a WHENEVER NON-SQL ERROR statement to allow neat handling of the other errors! I realise this is difficult or impossible, its just my dig for the day. Because of the extensive new features available in 4.1x, it is probably beneficial to review the application. Perhaps you should even consider using another tool other than 4GL for it? Informix 2.10 to ? & SCO Xenix to Unix Sys V Date: 25 June 1995 18:40 I've been in a coma for 6 years. Actually, I wouldn't do this for one of my customer but for my wife's business, well. I have been nursing an old copy of Informix 2.10.03k on SCO Xenix 2.3.2. Yes, I was too cheap to upgrade but now I'm worried. The software I wrote for my wife's business is still needed but I don't know a clear path to upgrade to the lates Informix 4GL product for Unix Sys V. IS THERE A PATH THAT WILL BE RELATIVELY EASY???? Just a simple recompile of the source and recreate the DB, right? Any help??? I didn't find the telemarketing folks at Informix very helpful. Oh yes, I really do software for a living. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. John J. Gervasi CASEJocky gervasi@reston.unisysgsg.com
