The rules are very clear: you MUST have an Informix licence (either Development or Runtime) for EVERY machine on which you wish to run our software. Even though you may write a complete program in 4GL, you do not actually own that program since it is inextricably linked with Informix software. Informix sells you a licence to run your program, developed in INFORMIX-4GL. This is an extremely important point. We estimate that for every licence we sell, at least one illegal copy is made. In the UK, through membership of FAST - the Federation Against Software Theft - we have successfully clawed back about UKP 250,000 in the last year from software pirates. Informix users are constantly demanding improved services, improved products etc, etc. We have a better chance of providing them if we are actually paid for our efforts! To paraphrase another ad campaign - "Get a licence, not a criminal record." This message is for the whole list, and not for any one subscriber. Tony Lacy-Thompson DB Product Manager, Informix UK
