Greetings, This is my first install of IDS so my question may come from ignorance. I am about to install IDS 9.3 UC1 on an IBM AIX box. I pulled the data from CD using cpio. When cpio was finished it created the following directories: ./bin ./gls ./etc ./lib ./messages ./msg ./release In the ./etc directory is a script called, installc. The header for installc is listed below: : Title: installc : Sccsid: @(#)installc 9.33 1/31/94 14:54:29 : Description: Client installation script. Similar to install but is : for client side installation. : This script must be run as informix. : It may create a RUN_AS_ROOT script, which must be run as root, : after this script finishes. : : Usage: installc files_list My question: Is there a difference between install and installc? The box I'm installing IDS on is going to be the server machine. Did I get the wrong install disk? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mike Badar ESRI-Denver One International Ct. The scripts etc/install and etc/installc are different (server side and client side), and you should not be using either directly. You should be using the installserver script (or its equivalent) from the top-level directory - where bin, gls, etc are located (aka $INFORMIXDIR). You should also be using 9.30.UC3 or later - you should *not* be using UC1. There are security reasons for doing the upgrade... -- Jonathan Leffler (jleffler@us.ibm.com) STSM, Informix Database Engineering, IBM Data Management 4100 Bohannon Drive, Menlo Park, CA 94025 Tel: +1 650-926-6921 Tie-Line: 630-6921 "I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it!" |---------+----------------------------> | | "Mike Badar " | | | <mbadar@esri.com>| | | Sent by: | | | forum.subscriber@| | | iiug.org | | | | | | | | | 06/13/2003 07:51 | | | AM | | | | |---------+----------------------------> >------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------| | | | To: ids@iiug.org | | cc: | | Subject: install script [1358] | | | >------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------| Greetings, This is my first install of IDS so my question may come from ignorance. Many thanks to Sam Gentsch who asked me why I was using cpio. The only reason I was using cpio was because when my corporate office sent me the software, the instruction sheet said to use cpio for the load line. After Sam questioned my use of cpio, I decided to mount the CD and look what was on it. Imagine that, ids_install was sitting right there. I have just finished loading IDS. Thanks again Sam.
