Re: INFORMIX WISH LIST

Tim et al, here's a couple of feature request I have not seen and which become less likely to happen as Informix gets deeper into bed with ANSI. But maybe an ASNI person is reading this... I have always felt the SQLCA does not return as much information as it could. Some items it would like to see added to SQLCA are: - The ID of the current connection - The name of the current database - The statement ID of the statement just executed - The cursor ID of the most recent FETCH or PUT - The name of a constraint that was violated These would be of enormous diagnostic help to programs that are application servers. My other item has to do with PUT cursors. Currently, if I PUT 30 rows before the buffer flushes and the 17th row violates something, I can't easily go back to re-PUT the 18th through 30th rows. For those who really want to use PUT cursors, my recommended workaround has always been to copy each row into a local array, which I clear only after SQLCA lets me know it has flushed. (sqlca.sqcerrd[3] in 4GL, [2] in esql/c). In case of error, that same number would indirectly tell me which row cased the barf and where to pick up from. YUCHH! That's complicated! If I could have access, if only by function calls, to the PUT buffer, I could copy back the failed row and retry the remaining rows in the buffer. Since this seems sooooo implementation specific, I can't picture ANSI sanctioning it. But it would be an extremely useful pair of features for loaders who don't want to run with constraints & indexes disabled. -- -- Jake (In pursuit of undomesticated aquatic avians) +----------------------------------------------------------+ |Aside from that, how did you enjoy the play, Mrs. Lincoln?| +----------------------------------------------------------+
