[You know, I almost ran this? Geez, its early] BTW:
$onstat -- | grep light
lap Print light append information
$
1. Pull up Frameviewer, load Informix documentation.
2. Search, "light appends"
3. Read:
-757 File open for light append can't pseudo close.
If this internal error recurs, please note all circumstances, and
contact the Informix Technical Support Department.
Hrm. Not overly descriptive, is it?
2b. Search, "onstat"
3b. Hrm. -g options ... doesn't even mention a '-g lap' possibility. Grr.
1c. Check with SupportRep(tm)
2c. Ask, "What the heck is a light append?" (alright, now I'm curious).
3c. Grr. Answer the 20-question "who are you" game. I wish they'd just
let us know an ID or something. Make this go a /lot/ faster.
4c. Reask the question as SupportRep had forgotten it.
5c. Explain to the SupportRep what I found out about light appends, through
onstats and reading the books, which is more than he knew.
6c. Get put on hold for a while. He'll email be back after he finds out.

My understanding is that (light appends) are the insert equivalent of
the light scan select. I see them when I am executing a High-Performance
Loader job to load rows into a table (onstat -g lap). The light appends
light appends are inserts that do not have to go through the buffer
pool. Unless your customer is experiencing a problem in the online log
this is not a problem.

Hope that answers your questions... the information wasn't that hard to
find out though. [Grin] Hope you're liking things over at TwoWay now, btw.
