32 bit or 64 bit-way to determine?
Posted in 2008
Question: how to tell whether an IDS 9.4 install (version FCX21) on 64-bit AIX 5.2 is 32-bit or 64-bit. Answered quickly and consistently: the letter in the version string indicates it — F means 64-bit (so FCX21 is 64-bit), U = 32-bit on a 32-bit OS, H = 32-bit on a 64-bit OS, T = 32-bit Windows (one poster noted F covers 64-bit on all platforms, including Windows). An alternative check suggested was running the OS command 'file oninit'; 'dbinfo version' was also mentioned.

Hi everyone. I have an IDS 9.4 FCX21 engine installed on an AIX 5.2 machine. I know the AIX 5.2 server has a 64-bit architecture but I am not sure if if the Informix engine installed is 32-bit or 64-bit. Is there a way to determine this? Thanks
Hello The "F" in FCX21 say that it is 64-bit. >Hi everyone. I have an IDS 9.4 FCX21 engine installed on an AIX 5.2 machine. >I know the AIX 5.2 server has a 64-bit architecture but I am not sure if if >the Informix engine installed is 32-bit or 64-bit. Is there a way to >determine this? Thanks
The F in 9.4FCX21 tells you that it is 64-bit. It would be a U if it was 32-bit. Below is the table from the manual, as you can see "F" is a 64 bit version running on a 64 bit OS. For more information please query the IDS info center on using "dbinfo version". Hi Will The version number "FC" means your installation is 64-bit. You would expect to see "UC" if you have installed 32-bit version. Will, try:
file oninit
that's my way of figuring it out, don't know any better way.
