Hello all,
IDS 11.10.FC2W4 on solaris 10.
Level 0 and logical log backup using ontape and directory feature.
the logical log backup is triggered using alarmprogram.sh.
few day back i have edited the alarmprogram.sh and added under case 23
EXIT_STATUS=$?
LOGFILE=`ls -ltr $LOGPATH |tail -1 | awk -F" " '{print $9}'`
scp -q $LOGPATH/$LOGFILE $RHOST:$LOGPATH &
( LOGPATH and RHOST already defined at the start of script )
This works fine and copy the newly created logical log arhcive file from local
host to a remote host ( no DR/HDR so creating a remote backup ).
On Local Host the files created are in a sequence as follows,
-rw-rw---- 1 informix informix 20578304 Sep 29 10:10 devdb_2_Log0000002753
-rw-rw---- 1 informix informix 20578304 Sep 29 18:05 devdb_2_Log0000002754
-rw-rw---- 1 informix informix 20578304 Sep 29 23:58 devdb_2_Log0000002755

-rw-rw---- 1 informix informix 20578304 Sep 30 02:36 devdb_2_Log0000002761
-rw-rw---- 1 informix informix 20578304 Sep 30 02:36 devdb_2_Log0000002762
-rw-rw---- 1 informix informix 20578304 Sep 30 02:36 devdb_2_Log0000002763

-rw-rw---- 1 informix informix 20578304 Sep 30 06:42 devdb_2_Log0000002766
On Remote Host the files copied (scp) are as follows,
-rw-r----- 1 informix informix 20578304 Sep 29 10:10 devdb_2_Log0000002753
-rw-r----- 1 informix informix 20578304 Sep 29 18:05 devdb_2_Log0000002754

-rw-r----- 1 informix informix 20578304 Sep 29 23:58 devdb_2_Log0000002755
-rw-r----- 1 informix informix 20578304 Sep 30 02:36 devdb_2_Log0000002758

-rw-r----- 1 informix informix 20578304 Sep 30 02:36 devdb_2_Log0000002759
-rw-r----- 1 informix informix 20578304 Sep 30 02:36 devdb_2_Log0000002761
-rw-r----- 1 informix informix 20578304 Sep 30 02:36 devdb_2_Log0000002762
-rw-r----- 1 informix informix 20578304 Sep 30 02:36 devdb_2_Log0000002763
-rw-r----- 1 informix informix 20578304 Sep 30 02:36 devdb_2_Log0000002764
-rw-r----- 1 informix informix 20578304 Sep 30 02:36 devdb_2_Log0000002765
-rw-r----- 1 informix informix 20578304 Sep 30 06:42 devdb_2_Log0000002766
Not sure if every thing is ok with the copy sequence but my concern is for
restoration with logical logs,
with the directory feature if i start the logical log restoration (after the
physical restoration) then IDS will start applying the required logs from the
directory mentioned against LTAPEDEV and apply the logs till end.
I want to confirm that will the order of these log files in the directory,
affect the restoration ?
I think it should not as IDS will search for the required logical log in the
entire directory and if not found only then it will consider that no more logs
are to be applied
better to understand than just think.
actually i should try out this myself but right now there is no instance free
for my testing.
Regards
Vikas.

The order of the log files does not matter. During restore from directory,
IDS will incrementally generate the needed logical log filenames for
logical recovery.
Thanks. Davis

Hi,
the restore of logical logs that were backed up to directory
is done by file name, i.e. the log backup file needed is
determined by the file name.
I'm not sure why you have that funny sorting on the remote
host. It looks very much like a funny environment setting
that influences the sorting order of the ls output.

Martin
