error 25580 confirmation
Posted in 2010
Topics: Networking & sqlhosts Configuration
hi All,
I know this has been asked so many times. But what i just need is confirmation.
here are my configs
NETTYPE soctcp,,30,,1 # Socket connection here
NET ipcshm,,30,,1 # IPC connections here
sqlhosts
dbserver1 onsoctcp machine1 soctcpport
dbserver1 onipcshm machine1 ipcshmport
/etc/services
soctcpport 50000/tcp ####For Sockets connections
ipcshmportxx 50001/tcp #### For IPC connection
Given the config above, my users complains that they encounter problem 25580
when executing a script that connects to database. then it will work after
re-executing the script.
as you see above the ipcshmport does not match with ipcsgmportxx on
/etc/services. My question is "is it the culprit"? I can't guess as this is a
PRODUCTION env. If this is the culprit, do i need to restart the IDS after
changing the ipcshmport to ipcshmportxx?
Appreciate your help on this.
Thanks,
No, the service name used for shared memory connections is a dummy, it
doesn't even have to be in the services file, it just can't be the same name
as the one you use for the sockets connection - tends to confuse things I've
found. Your shared memory connection and sockets connections require
independent servernames. Your configuration should be:
ONCONFIG file:
DBSERVERNAME dbserver1
DBSERVERALIASES dbserver1_tcp
NETTYPE ipcshm,30,1,CPU
NETTYPE soctcp,20,1,NET
SQLHOSTS file:
dbserver1_tcp onsoctcp machine1 soctcpport
dbserver1 onipcshm machine1 ipcshmport
/etc/services file:
soctcpport 50000/tcp ####For Sockets connections

Hi,
I think your connection is done, requiring something else
other than shm. So :
1/ don't repeat the same dbserver1 in sqlhosts with onipcshm .
2/ In fact, you don't need any entry for shm in /etc/services.
Then, in your case, make sure your $INFORMIXSERVER is relating
to the entry using onsoctcp in your sqlhosts file.
