hi all, is there any way a table level restore can be done on informix 7.31? if yes, how to do it? what about dbspace level? the database currently online and there are some tables i need to return back...as the user deleted it mistakenly. What are the steps to make to restore the whole dbspace. I appreciate your help on this. thanks,

You can restore a dbspace in case of failure. You cannot put one dbspace in one timestamp leaving the database in another. Table level restore is not supported in V7.31. You could try to use it (archecker) but chances that it would not work are very high. You could of course restore the database in another server and unload the tables you need. You "just" need another server and any kind of storage. IF AND ONLY IF you are backing up logs singly using ontape -a manually or
using the ALARMPROGRAM, then you can perform a restore to the last logical
log prior to the offending deletes and force the instance to go online using
onmode -m. You will have only lost any updates between that last log andthe delete itself, but that's better than what you have. If your logical
log backups are at a broader resolution - ie were taken using ontape -c or a
big ontape -a run containing many logical logs, then the best you can hope
is to restore to the last multiple log tape that was made between the last
archive and the deletions. More will have been lost in this case if the
deleted rows in the table were being actively updated after that log backup
was made.
Note if the table hasn't been updated/inserted/deleted since the lost rows
were deleted, they are still on disk, their slot entries have just been
marked as deleted. It MAY be possible to recover the data from the disk or
from an archive taken after the deletes. Therefore, you should take a new
ontape archive or make a dd copy of all of the chunks before trying to
restore the data. If you have extended support on your 7.31 instances IBM
may be able to help, otherwise, I may be able to recover the data if all
else fails.
Also, an 11.50 version of archecker MAY be able to read the 7.31 archive
(the format hasn't changed except to accommodate large pages) and extract
the data. Maybe John can pipe in on this last.

Hi Fernando/Art, Good to hear your comments on this. the last time i tried to user archecher on 9.4, it didn't work also. Just an FYI, what i did is dbspace restore instead of table level. i successfully restored the data into the table located on that dbspace. I just got run into another problem as the user is complaining that the data she needs is not fully restored (some discrepancy of 200k rows). Then,i tried once again same as my first restore but it is failing due to error "rootdbs needs full restore" error. Another problem is the logical logs was asked to turn OFF because it is taking time to delete (of course, it will use logs). Anyways, all the scenario happened today is huge. Last Resort made : Full DB restore up to the last time before the logging turned OFF.
