PowerBuilder and Informix

Hi Everyone: I have a question related to PowerBuilder (or for that matter, any front end development). The Unix server where our Informix database resides requires a password change every 30 days. Therefore, when the password expires, Informix returns an Invalid Password message when trying to login to the database from the client application. We have found a workaround for this but it seems kludgy. Before the application logs in to the database, we open a Telnet session to the Unix server. When an expired password is encountered an error message is received by the telnet session. We then prompt the user for a new password (through a PowerBuilder window) and use the telnet session to change the password. Once the telnet session has a successful login, we then proceed to login to the database using the PowerBuilder Informix database interface. This process of opening an telnet session to verify the password is very slow in terms of the time that is elasped. Connecting to Informix directly from the applicatioin without the telnet session to check for the expiraiton of the password is quite quick. My questions are: 1. Is there a native Informix error message that gets returned when an expired password is encountered? 2. Is there a better way to determine if the password has expired and can it be changed without using telent? (i.e. Is there a faster mechanism in Unix to handle this?) I hope I have provided a sufficient explantion. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rem. rem_p@mindspring.com
