Illustra has a multi-process architecture (although Informix DSA and Universal Server are multithreaded) and each server process takes a minimum of 6 mb memory. You didn't say which Web server you're using, but per-process memory usage is bound to be much less than the DBMS's because Web servers are relatively simple creatures.
