Q re killing sessions
Posted in 1997
Barry,
We set up functions like that as follows:
1. Create a new Unix user ( killer, for example ). It would have the
same userid and group as the Informix user. But instead of a shell,
the entry in the passwd file would be the full path to a script.
2. In this script, develop a system of menu options that you want this
user to be able to do as Informix. For instance, to kill a process,
the user might select option 1. He would then be prompted for the
process number to kill. The script would then issue an onmode -z in
behalf of the user. You will want to put in your own system of checks
and restraints here. The key thing is to not allow this user access to
a shell, as he is effectively the Informix user.

I am the sole DBA at my company. However, there are times when I am
not available and an errant session needs to be killed. The only way
I know to kill a session cleanly is with the onmode -z command. Is
there any way to give someone the ability to kill an informix session
using onmode without giving them the informix password or compromising
security elsewhere?
