Re: Problem with On-line restore
Posted in 1993
We have made some progress with our archive corruption problem. We have proved that a perfectly sound database is being corrupted by performing a level 0 archive followed by a full restore. The people we have our support contract with finally managed to get Informix to tell us that the problem is PROBABLY caused by moving our OnLine engine to a machine running SCO3.2.4 -- we were running SCO3.2.2. It appears that Informix has had to produce a port of OnLine specific to SCO3.2.4 because of problems they won't tell us about... Of course, it is not certain that this is the cause of our problems - we have to try it and see. Why is it not possible to learn about things like this without having to report a problem first? Luckily, we found this while testing the move to our new machine. If we had not, and some system failure had required us to perform a full restore... the company would have lost all its data and now be heading for receivership... -- Paul Mahoney, X-Act Solutions Limited smail: 20 Shipley Lane, Cooden, Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex, TN39 3SR email: ptm@xact.demon.co.uk ... pmahoney@cix.compulink.co.uk phone: +44 424 3 6368
