termcap-numlocks?

Attempting to run xterm windows on x stations that directly open 4gl programs. This is AIX on RS6000 running i4gl 6.01 tools. I can get the 4ge executed with a window of the appropriate size, coloring and screen placement but I can't get the numeric keypad to operate. Use of the Ctrl "middle mouse button" (second pointer, is the term in some places) allows me to toggle the Enable Application Keypad on the "VT Options" menu to off, which enables the numeric keypad as numerics with of without numlock. However, that is not a user friendly approach. Is this feature set in termcap somewhere? I can't seem to isolate what sets or onsets the "Enable Application Keyboard" feature of X.
