I don't know about the long names.
The common reason for not beeing able to update a table via MS Access
is that there is no unique index on the table or that the name of that
unique index is system generated and contains a space as the first
character. For some reason MS Access can't deal with that.
For this and other reasons we allways create a primary key this way:
create unique index tablename_primary on tablename (columnname);
alter table tablename add constraint primary key (columnname)
constraint tablename_primkey;
Of course if you have table names longer than 10 characters you will
have to change the _primary and _primkey part of the index and primary
key constraint names above.
