RSS DBSERVERNAME

Good Morning, We are running Informix 11.70.FC7 on Solaris. Is there a best practice recommendation when setting up RSS on whether to use DBSERVERNAME or DBSERVERALIASES for the communication between the primary and RSS nodes? I recall at one of the IIUG Conference sessions someone mentioned that it is better to use a different listener for Primary/RSS/HDR and separate it from user connections. Should both primary and RSS use a separate listener and does it matter if it is the DBSERVERNAME or DBSERVERALIASES? Any suggestions? --Dave --001a1135e5d03b0edc050ee523c2
As always --- It depends... ;-) If you have a lot of update activity, then it might be beneficial to isolate the RSS traffic. If you don't, then it really doesn't make any= difference. Yes, best practice is for the HA secondaries (ie HDR, RSS, or SDS) to use a different alias than clients. Each server should be set up with DBSERVERNAME set to the most commonly used alias whether that is shared memory, stream pipes, or TCP. The DBSERVERALIASES would include any alternative connection names for the server including the alias will be used by that instance for communication with other HA instances. Then place that alias into the HA_ALIAS parameter in the ONCONFIG file to tell the engine which alias to use for communications with other HA instances. Art Art S. Thank you Madison and Art,
So if I understand correctly, best practice would be to have all main user
connections connecting to the DBSERVERNAME of both the Primary and RSS
nodes. Then create a separate entry in DBSERVERALIASES on both the primary
and RSS and use that for setting up the RSS communication when using
the "onmode
-d add RSS" commands? Then also add the new entry in DBSERVERALIASES to
the HA_ALIAS config parameter.
