Whoa. Did you setup ISM? Onbar needs a storage manager and IDS 7.3x
delivers ISM (Informix Storage Manager, essentially Legato Lite) for you to
use but you need to configure it. ISM does not use the ONCONFIG TAPE/LTAPE
parameters. Read the Backup and Restore Manual (or is it the Archive and
Restore Manual?) about setting up onbar and ISM. In the meantime you can
quickly backup the logs by setting the LTAPE parameters and using ontape -a
to archive the logical logs. The archives will be compatible with onbar
for later restores if needed.

Thanks,
I am just assessing the modifications we will have to do in our code if we
change the RDBMS to informix. So I got a trial version, withgout any proper
doc.
I finally succeded to "backup" the logs by changing the tape device name in
the onconfig to NUL, and issuing "ontape -a" ( My NT server does not have a
tape device...
BTW, is there a nice GUI interface, apart from the sluiggish ISA, to manage
an Informix system ?
Remember, I am on NT, and I didn't choose that ...

The docs are online on the Informix WEB Site for viewing or download. FWIW.

There used to be a GUI admin interface, nice is not a word one would use
associated with it. It was functional enough but TBT most of us used and
continue to use the commandline utilities, some of which I know are not
available on NT. The GUI was so ignored that it has been completely
replaced with the ISA. Some DBAs are beginning to use the ISA and to give
feedback to Informix to improve it. That is an evolving product and will
hopefully grow into a very useful tool.
