I'm looking to build a list of daily/weekly/monthly tasks in managing an IDS system (one instance, 8GB data). Obvious regular ones include: Reviewing free space in dbspaces Ensuring enough log files Checking for errors in message file Others include Investigating performance problems Liaising with Informix support Assisting in migration to Solaris 2.6 (from 2.5.1) Assisting in installing later versions of the engine (currently 7.30 and 7.31 is on the way I believe) All constructive contributions welcome! TIA Surfer! URL: http://www.nevis-vieww.demon.co.uk Email: surfer@nevis-vieww.demon.co.uk Hopeful anti-spam: alter double 'w' to single 'w' to view site & send Email.
You can add to the "Obvious regular ones" performing data+log backups, and checking that the backups are done "right" -i.e. you can use them later for restore. To the "Others " you can add: checking enough no of locks, buffers, VPs ,...etc. through monitoring the server instance over a period of time. Also, from time to time you have to isolate and terminate runaway processes. Hope this helps!
