Does anybody know : if one may delete the *tmp-files on a regular basis or does the Informix- : server still need them? Deleting these files, especially ones that have current timestamps, is not a good idea. I'm not sure under which conditions these files could hang around after Informix is finished with them. Informix usually deletes them when it's finished. It's best in many cases to go ahead and set up DBSPACETEMP dbspaces. There's been some discussion that in some cases using /tmp will result in faster sorts, but I prefer doing it all in the database. Other UNIX operations also use /tmp and I prefer making all Informix activities as much self- contained as possible and using temp dbspaces allows Informix and only Informix to control the use.
