Did they do that in the French Revolution too??
:-)
If I remember my history lessons Marie Antoinette mentioned cake at a time
when it was inappropriate and got her head cut off. Similarly, if Informix
wants people to eat cake, i.e. no marketing, bad choices in press releases
about products that don't matter, stupid installation media tricks, etc. I
really don't think it sits well for end users while there are so many things
they need to fix organizationally speaking, as well as their marketing and
some of the engine problems in 7.3.
ISA is a pretty face for onstat, but in a lot of ways wastes a web page with
a lot of nothing. On balance I like the way much of ISA works server side,
it would be great if there were fewer clicks to real information rather than
just being pretty. Onstat has a few reports that really tell you something
but in most cases unless there is detailed documentation, the reports are
of little value.
For example, which of these two reports is really useful:

Do I really need to know the address of a logical log for this particular
moment?? Or maybe I don't need all that information about the physical
log right now. The format is difficult to read from onstat, ugly at best.
It could be a lot better.
I've found a better way in actually hitting the SMI tables and writing scripts
that give me information that makes sense, or displaying onstat output ONLY when
not able to hit SMI tables.
If you want to see my own version of an ISA stop by my web site. My own WebTop
DBA is still under construction, as well as its documentation, but certainly allows
a faster path to information a DBA could actually use, and what it doesn't have you
can add to it very easy. ISA simply paves the way for an add-on such as this. It's
nice that you can still use ISA for the stuff that could change things, and use other
things to report with.
I need add only a few lines to the httpd.conf and other pages like WebTop DBA can be
added to ISA--rather than attempting to use the "Custom" feature in ISA.
;-)
Thanks,
Tim
