ontape restore question

Topics: Backup & Restore
Hi again,
I have been practicing with ontape.
I have TAPEDEV and LTAPEDEV pointing to different files ( which are soft
links to the real files ).
I have been able to do a level 0 backup and restore if I ignore the
questions about log files.
I did a ontape -a to dump the logs. Should I ??
I did an ontape -s and answered yes to back up the logs.
It asked which oldest log to back up. 2222 to 2250.
I entered 2222. After a while It replied that all 0 to 2250 were backupped.
Is this correct ??
Then why when I do a restore ( ontape -r ) ontape asks me if I want to back
up the logs ?
don't I want them to be read ??
The manual is very vague.
Am I missing something???
Thanks,
Isaac

We always set LTAPEDEV to /dev/null and we are still able to restore
from any ontape backup. When we do a restore, the DB is restored back
to the point in time at which the ontape backup STARTED. However, we
cannot rollforward since we do not apply additional logs.
The question about backing up logs is asking whether you want Informix
to try to save the logical logs on the DB that you are about to overwrite.

When you restore ontape wants to know if you want to backup the
"current" log and any others that have not been backed up before the
restore overwrites them with older data.
