Web access to ISAM C database

I have no experiance with the Informix product range or tool sets. Could anyone answer the following. What tools are available to access ISAM C databases via a Web front end? Does anyone know of tools to convert ISAM-C databases to Oracle. Or is there a tool that allows transaction syncronisation from ISAM-C to Oracle databases? Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

Perl + CIsam module is probably the best option I can think of; certainly, it's the one that immediately springs to mind. (And No, I have only installed it; I didn't have any hand in writing it.) There's also an Isam module, but the CIsam module is clearly derived from that, and the CIsam module did not dump core when I ran the self-test code, unlike the Isam module. > Does anyone know of tools to convert ISAM-C > databases to Oracle. No, but you might look at the isextract code which should be available at the IIUG web site (http://www.iiug.org/) -- it unloads data from a C-ISAM file if you can define the datatypes in terms it understands. Basically, you need to know what formats Oracle accepts for loading data, and translate the C-ISAM data into that format. > Or is there a tool that allows transaction > syncronisation from ISAM-C to Oracle databases? I've not heard of one, which isn't quite the same as saying it doesn't exist. However, C-ISAM operates at a *much* lower level than any SQL database, and such synchronization is likely to be extremely difficult, even if not actually impossible. -- Yours, Jonathan Leffler (Jonathan.Leffler@Informix.com) #include <disclaimer.h> Guardian of DBD::Informix v1.00.PC1 -- http://www.perl.com/CPAN "I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it!"

Is this module available from the Perl module archive site or from the Informix user group site ? It sounds interesting. > > Does anyone know of tools to convert ISAM-C > > databases to Oracle. > > No, but you might look at the isextract code which should be available > at the IIUG web site (http://www.iiug.org/) -- it unloads data from a > C-ISAM file if you can define the datatypes in terms it understands. > Basically, you need to know what formats Oracle accepts for loading > data, and translate the C-ISAM data into that format. > > > Or is there a tool that allows transaction > > syncronisation from ISAM-C to Oracle databases? > > I've not heard of one, which isn't quite the same as saying it doesn't > exist. That will give you all the tools you need to access c-isam data right where it is, but with regular sql via the sql-tags in your html. Nona
