Richard Curtis Appointed Chairperson of X/Open Independent Software Vendor Council Menlo Park, Calif. (April 5, 1993) Informix Software (NASDAQ:IFMX) today announced that Richard B. Curtis, 61, has been appointed to chair the X/Open Independent Software Vendor (ISV) Council. Curtis, vice president of Quality and Standards at Informix, will be responsible for leading the ISV Council during this transition year at X/Open. Under the new "integrator" strategy of X/Open, the responsibility for gathering and developing requirements for open systems has been delegated to the User Council in cooperation with the ISV Council and other X/Open groups. The combined councils have created an Open Systems Requirements Board (OSRB) to coordinate the development of these requirements. In addition to his responsibilities as chairperson on the ISV Council, Curtis will serve as a member on the OSRB. "The ISV community has realized that it too, is a user of open systems, and as such, has a stake in setting requirements for the industry," said Curtis. "Some of these requirements are non-technical, like licensing models and multi-vendor support. These are important issues that will be addressed in the coming year." "Dick is a logical choice for chairperson of the ISV Council," stated Bob Lewin, X/Open's vice president of North American Operations, "because Informix has been an advocate of driving quality and open systems standards in the marketplace. His experience at Informix will be an asset to the ISV Council." X/Open is a consortium of users and hardware and software vendors that is devoted to the realization of open information systems. The ISV Council gives open systems software vendors an active role in the X/Open organization. ISV Council members gain representation on the X/Open Board of Directors as well as access to all strategic and technical activities of X/Open. The ISV Council acts as X/Open's primary advisor on the software industry. In turn,Council membership offers ISVs important insight into X/OpenUs Common Application Environment (CAE) for open systems, the internationally recognized open systems specification. ISV council members also have influence over the direction of marketing programs and technical work programs of X/Open.
