memory allocation

IDS 9.21 UC 5 Solaris 2.6 All DSS shop, 1 Database and Informix is the only application on the box 8 CPU 8 gig memory Does anyone know how to get Informix to see/use more than 4 gig of available memory? When I try to configure SHMTOTAL with more than 4 gig, Informix will not start (not enough physical memory). When I set SHMTOTAL = 4 gig or less or 0, the engine will start but only will be able to get about 3.7 gig memory. Setting SHMTOTAL to 0 will allow unrestricted shared memory allocation. Carl, Informix can not use more memory than that (~3.7GB) in a 32 bits OS, its just matter of design and the memory address mechanism they use can not reference over that point. Solaris 2.6 is 32-bit. It doesn't support more than 4 GB for single application.
