Hi Hartmut,
I have no idea of the error. Did you set PSORT_NPROCS to
a very large number of processes ?
You can try to create the index from the root, instead of the leaves.
But this can just be a workaround.
$ export NOSORTINDEX=1
$ echo "create index idx01 on yourtable(yourfield)"|dbaccess yourdb -
