Hi Guys Roles are as follows. Business Analyst will analyse the business requirements and come up with a Business Process Model that contains un organized data elements. ( in lines of IDEF0 ). Logical DBA who is a layer between Business Analyst and Physical DBA will come out with a Logial Data Model ( IDEF1X or IE ) Physical DBA whom we refer as DBA will construct Physical Model and a platform dependent Deployment Model ( schema, constriants, procedures ... all database objects ). As detailed by Carlos , Budget and Philosophy etc have merged the roles of Logical DBA and Physical DBA and gave birth to an Integrated role called DBA. It is very common in many organizations to have logical DBA even today. DBA Plays a key role in an organization whose business is dependent on DBMS data. Coming to the End-2-End responsibilities of DBA. Starting with building a Data Model, and Constructing the resulting physical model that comprise all database objects that are relavent to the platform, getting involved in continuous DBMS improvement (upgradation, enhancements, optimization etc)and the FINAL M3 ( Monitoring, Maintaining and Migration ) Ram ____________________Reply Separator____________________ Subject: Re: Database Design Author: Carlos Benjamin <benj@firstlinux.net> Date: 8/29/00 6:34 AM Sometimes the analyst is the DBA is the programmer. A lot depends on the organization your working with and their philosophy (and/or budget - which often dictates philosophy to a degree). If you have all three resources and are asking what to do in a perfect world.... I don't know, I've never been there. --- "Andy Jiang" <ajiang@mail.lumley.co.nz> > wrote: >Hi everyone > >I would ask a very general question about DBA role here. > >I am not quite sure what is exactly DBA's job regarding database design.
