Simple Client/Server config question

When using the Informix Standard Engine with ODBC drivers, I know it's necessary to start up a daemon process $INFORMIXDIR/lib/sqlexecd to listen for requests on port specified in the /etc/services file. I'm able to get this to work with no problem. Now, I want to use ODBC drivers with IDS engine. Is the IDS engine already listening on a port for requests and no daemon process needs to be started? So do all I need to do is specify an entry in $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts and a corresponding entry in /etc/services? Thanks, Candy -- Candy McCall ONLINE Computing, Inc. (candym@olcinc.com)

Checkout your sqlhosts and ONCONFIG file entries. If your primary
connection (DBSERVERNAME in ONCONFIG file) is a shared memory connection
(in sqlhosts file) you will need to also have at least one DBSERVERALIAS
entry in the ONCONFIG file that corresponds to a TCP/IP entry in the
sqlhosts file which MUST have a different service/port than the shared
memory connection. So we have shared memory, TCP/IP over ethernet, and
TCP/IP over FDDI on each server and the entries look something like this:
/etc/services:
sqlmem 1524
sqlether 1525
sqlfddi 1526
$ONCONFIG:
DBSERVERNAME myserverDBSERVERALIAS myserver_e,myserver_f
sqlhosts:
myserver onipcshm server_1 sqlmem
myserver_e ontlitcp server_1 sqlether
myserver_f ontlitcp server_1_fddi sqlfddi
